	An absolutely exquisite antique French jewelry or desk top box with rococo brass and tortoise shell inlay on both top and front. The Boulle work is simply breathtaking; intricate foliate motif elaborately spread across the entire surfaces of ebonized pear wood. On top there is a central cartouche that has NOT been monogrammed; so it's ready for yours. Condition is very good. Brass fittings sturdy, but the key is missing. A little drying to the tortoise shell, minor age related hairline cracks and some loss at two of the corners. In no way detracting from the beauty of this piece; the losses well hidden in the exceptional detail of the work. Also there is a stain in the bottom corner of the dusky pink silk lining. Perhaps a bit of perfume spilt once. The size of the casket would easily lend itself to the storage of expensive perfume vials. But I would emphasize versatility for this casket; it would look wonderful on a fine antique desk for letters, envelopes, whatever you like!
