Miniature Oil Painting On Ivory Button Brooch Jeweled

Miniature oil painting on ivory surround by sparkling paste or foil backed stones. This is a spectacular little oil painting on ivory. It measures only 1 1/8” square – I believe this was a button either a clothing button or a button you would put on a shoe. I hope you can see in the picture that there is a bar running triangular across with a hook which makes me think it is a button. The ivory is incredibly thin – it is just like a thin sliver of ivory with this tiny almost microscopic oil painting. The painting has very fine detail – life like features and just a very pleasant scene. This one is of a woman sitting on what appears to be a small bank along side a path. Nestled in-between the foliage – the grass and the trees appears to be maybe an artist monogram or signature but it is so tiny so small that I truly can not decipher what it says.

The condition is very good I have to say perfect – these would make a spectacular addition to the collector of miniature art but also imagine using this on a special blazer or jacket and another interesting idea in my opinion would be use it as an awesome and spectacular hat pin. Made in the 19th century - I’m quite sure and most likely French or Italian, I’m just not sure. I have had this for several years put away – hoping that one day I would come across some information that would tell me what it is – but so far I really haven’t found anything. Spectacular and wonderful for what it is with many uses.
