Early Native North American Burl Treen Ladle attributed to the early Seneca Indians. This burl ladle is an extra fine example having dark wide bands of Tiger Maple through the length of the handle and a fine burl figure throughout the bowl. Well used, nicely worn shape and surface and a wonderful profile. The rim of the bowl has a few older mouse bites. The handle has an old stable hairline age crack (no worry), all adding to its character. The earliest ladles had bowls wider than long. See Aspects of change in Seneca Iroquois Ladles, A.D. 1600-1900. Betty Coit Prisch, Rochester Museum and Science Center, 1982, Page 6. Together with the Tiger Maple Scoop (shown) makes a fantastic grouping for collectors.
Measurements: Handle measures 6 1/4 long x 1 1/4 diameter. The bowl is 3 1/2 x 4 1/4 wide.
