Pair of Antique Italian Mirrors; Parcel Gilding and Paint

Good Antique Condition – (Some elements from 18th C) – Chipping to paint.- some damage to pilasters - Late 1800’s.

This pair of large painted and parcel gilt Italian mirrors take their design from architecture.  They have fluted pilasters with stepped out capitals at the top with facing volutes in between.  The bases are thick semi-circles with hand-carved sunflower and leaf decor in between. The paint is a grayish Provence blue with parcel gilt showing in places. We believe some of the elements of these mirrors were from the 18th C.

The silvered glass (mirrors) always came in two sections during the earlier periods.  This was due to the fact that they could only makes sections of glass a certain length.  Some of the silvering is missing, which is always more desirable in antique mirrors.

These are rare in age, size and, the fact that they are a pair.
