Pair of Italian Renaissance Armchairs, circa 1860: This is a superb and hard to find matched pair of Italian armchairs. They are crafted from walnut with high backs and possibly maintain the original upholstery (or very old if not original). The back of each chair is topped on the edges with parcel gilt gold crests which have a great faded antique patina. The bases comprise a carved front cross member and turned legs terminate with small carved claw feet facing forward. The arms are spectacular with a beautiful aged patina from years of wear and terminate in a bold inward rolled scroll. Magnificent!!! These are the chairs you see in Architectural Digest sitting on each side of a period tapestry in an Italian villa! Dimensions are: 27w x 24 d x 55h
