Rare and Fabulous. Early 19th C French Palais Royal Sewing Box. Rectangular....undulating lid is decorated with scrolling patterns of cut steel pins centered by a brass carrying handle. Bombe style and sets upon 4 steel ball feet. Approx. 4 by 6 by 8 1/4 inches. Lid interior with a mirror in ruched pink silk border. A velvet tray with embroidered spandrels , underneath is silk lined. Includes: 2 matched mother of pearl silk winders set in mirror based compartments. Single silver blade folding knife with mother of pearl handle. Mother of pearl tambour hook Gilt acorn finial terminal bodkin Pair of scissors with gilt mounts and animal carved mother of pearl arms and oval loops marked Tutle and 44 BO and 2 other marks one of which could be an eagle head...I cannot make it out. One loop is cracked.. Gilt metal thimble Stiletto with carved mother of pearl handle with pansy motif. Needlecase of mother of pearl..interior joint is damaged. Box has a bit of craquelure to finish. When sold at the Palais Royal was an expensive souvenir. So hard to find |
