Price: $1,200.00 USD THIS ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD!
From a private collection of superior early Americana primitives we are offering this VERY OLD antique 1800s utilitarian treenware Antique Shaker Pantry Box, rare 6 finger in mint condition and previously owned by the late Mary Earle Gould There is a note found inside with the words written "6 fingerbox was Mary Earle Gould's, Pictured on page 165 in her book Early American Woodenware". It has been verified authentic. Mary's collection originally sold at Skinner in 1984 and this same picture was in her original book published in 1941. It is a beautiful heavy oak wood and a rare 6 finger box. A very deep, very pronounced straight grain pattern uniformly set 1/8 apart run like parallel rings down the outside and inside of the box. The top and bottom lids are also of oak and similarly straight grained.
The old tiny square pegs holding the top and bottom really stand out as well as the 4 rows of old copper square head nails that band the body. A definite collector's piece to admire. A 1962 covered hardcopy of her book will be furnished with it See enlarged pictures (bottom right) to see a picture of it in Mary's book. Please note: The box it is sitting on in the picture is very large, making it appear small, but it is bigger in diameter than say a gallon milk jug and quite tall for a pantry box Also please note the description under the picture.
Measurements: 8 3/8" across, 6" height
