	Rare Double Eglomise Portrait Georgian Mourning Ring, C1785 Jewelry: Mourning/Sentimental Jewelry
	A circa 1785 English Georgian era memorial/mourning gold ring with rare double eglomise profile portraits of a man and a woman intertwined by a snake. Eglomise is a French word that means to paint on the backside of glass so it shows through to the other side. The snake or serpent when swallowing its own tail represents eternity, love, rebirth and immortality. Both portraits are under raised rock crystal and have edges that are beveled. The top of the ring is finished off with black enamel. The shank has an open wirework circular design giving it a lighter feel and style. This ring makes a perfect pinky finger ring but cannot be resized. Condition: The ring itself is in excellent condition. The eglomise portraits are showing some flaking under the glass.
