This beautiful Georgian Watch Chain features a clasp depicting a gloved hand holding onto the wreath of eternal hope. There is also a slide which was possibly not original to the chain. I say that because the slide tests to 10K where the rest of the chain and clasp tests var. 15K or higher. The chains are lustrous and supple having been constructed by hand with each link soldered. Doubled, as we're showing it this will hang 32" or worn differently you can swag it to the side or stagger the two chains to increase the length (which measures 64" in full) to suit your needs. Of course you can hang your favorite locket or pocket watch from this chain - but I think this chain is substantial and fabulous on its' own. I have a similar chain and I occasionally swag and attach to a brooch or sometimes my lorgnette for more dramatic look at the opera. There are many possibilities for how to wear these wonderful old chains. CONDITION: Superb antique condition. There was one link that was an inappropriate (larger) early replacement which we've had repaired and subsequently, my jeweler necessarily cleaned the chain. The rare and exceptional hand clasp is in two movable pieces and measures 1.5" long x .5" across. The slide is .75" long x a tad under .5" wide and is nicely engraved and beautifully shaped with repousse sides. The 2 chains lay flat and measure .11" across. Weight by scale: 37.3 grams. Hand crafted, early 19th century - Georgian period. An independent Gemological Appraisal will be provided for this piece. Our fine jewelry is shipped worldwide at no charge to our clients.
