A Rare Vintage, French Enamel Porcelain Cigar or trinket dish Made by Longwy for Louis Vuitton, made in France mid 20th century. The bowl has brightly enameled raised LV Monogram Icons of gold on brown ground and a black enamel border rim, fire glaze kiln with a crackled appearance to the bottom, one of Longwy's trademarks. The glaze is vitrified, hard, which gives it the beautiful transparent finish. The gold icons are all hand brushed with fine lines of outlined black enamel. These were said to have been used primarily as cigar bowls in the Louis Vuitton stores, never sold by Louis Vuitton and an extremely rare item made only for Louis Vuitton... one fine company for another. Underside is marked "Specialement edite pour Louis Vuitton par les Emaux (earthenware cloisonne) de Longwy, Made in France", with initials "BC" which are possibly the artists initials. In 1798, Longwy began producing French Faience pottery in Longwy, France 3, rue des Emaux, 54400. * made in France by Longwy for Louis Vuitton * Measures 5" diameter by 1" depth * Condition: Vintage- excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. |
