Rare Signed Signed Cristallerie Galle Claret Jug Decanter

A very rare French Cristallerie Galle Art Glass Claret Jug or decanter with sterling silver mounts from the Art Nouveau period. Featuring acid etched and wheel carved glass decorated in a teal green enamel grape and vine motif having gilt accents. The quality 950 sterling silver hinged lid with a vermeil interior and the base of the claret jug continues the grape vine motif. Sterling silver hallmarks. The claret jug is signed Cristallerie Galle at the base of the glass, see picture for close up. Condition: Excellent, no chips or cracks to the glass, no bends or dents to the silver.

Cristallerie d'Emile Galle" was born in Nancy, France and is considered one of the most outstanding glass artists of his time and had a major influence on the Art Nouveau movement, as he greatly contributed to the development of the art of glassmaking winning international awards, recognition through commissions. Clear and enameled or stratified, applied, engraved, acid etched or wheel-carved, his glass was very elaborate. Nature inspired his designs, which were mostly floral, some with foliage, or landscape decorations and some with a strong Japanese feeling. He developed a technique for the production of cut and incised flashed glass and enameled designs, enhanced by bright colors and transparency of the material.
