Late 18th century/early 19th century cherry veneer tantalus with inlaid mother of pearl key sheild and original square hinges. Compartmentalized for all six square base decanters and long tray in front. Space for two cordial glasses in the inset lid dome. Original red paper lining, with some minor losses, but amazingly intact. some bumps to veneer, but otherwise a fantastic example. Six finely blown square decanters with smoothed pontil on base, each 7" in height, 2 3/4" diameter. Rounded dome shape top with floret stopper, each finely hand gilt decorated in a starburst and garland pattern with only minimal rubbing loss to the gilt. Pair of cordials, 4" high, 1 7/8"diameter with baluster stems and rough pontils. Hand decorated with gilt swag floral and banding. Wonderful examples of 18th century glass in their slight irregularity. Glass tray is 7" long, 5 1/2" wide with hand cut starburst and gilt swag and banding decoration. All glass free of and chips or condition issues with only minimal losses to the gilt decoration. A rare unique set in its entirely original condition. |
