Vintage Tapestry C. 1920's French Clutch Purse - Marcasite Clasp

 

Antique c. 1920's  Autumnal Tapestry Clutch Purse With Extraordinarily detailed Hand Made Marcasite & Chyrsoprase set into Silver Adornment and Clasp Excellent Estate Condition

 

Here is a Vintage Tapestry Small Clutch Bag Made for the most sophisticated tastes. The bag is simple and features a soft body beneath a constructed frame top The top of the frame is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen in this genre. It is a clearly a deco pattern of Silver with hand set Marquisite Stones and large Hexagon Green Chrysoprase Stones.Chrysoprase, chrysophrase or chrysoprasus is a gemstone variety of chalcedony (a cryptocrystalline form of silica) that contains small quantities of nickel.The tapestry appears at least partially hand stitched and embroidered In Colors of Honey, Forest Green, Russets and Burgundy It actually still has little packets of extra Marcasites should you need them. This dates c. 1920 and was lovingly cherished and used. the Honey Silk Lining does show some wear, but that is more from age because the silk was so fine. The silk lining shows some slight shredding and minor lipstick stains on the bottom. There are two elasticized pockets on the interior The exterior, however is PERFECT Marcasite rectangle 4 1/2" x 1 1/8" The top of the clasp measures 1 7/8" x 5/8" Bag is 8 1/2" at its widest point & 6" Tall. Expandable to about 3" worth of pouch and will probably hold more than you think Pull tab is the Marquisite long Rectangle which fits into the rolled Marcasite Clasp at the top It does have the initials JL as the center focus - but you really have to look to identify them. Initials and signatures are part of the romance of Antique items. The imperfections of the lining do not affect the beauty nor the functionality of this amazing purse. This is truly a collectors item. My best guess is that this dates about 1920. Looks as though it was minimally used and the exterior is flawless.
